This may be considered by some as one of Dick Francis’ “lesser rated” novels. I disagree.I particularly enjoyed the protagonist. I love it when Mr. Francis places a protagonist with superior deductive skills in a mystery that he solves deftly. And you are a bit surprised.
The main character is a diplomat just back from a posting in Japan who slides into a mystery at the racecourses on his way to a home posting in London. A medical - veterinary mystery.

Great plot.
Kept me guessing.
Peter Darwin is my second favorite character, Sid being my first.
Watch out for......I won't give it away!
Finally broke down and loaded my favorite author Dick Francis into my . Couldn't be without him very long. I have every published book on my shelves, most in hard cover, most in paperback, but I've taken to loving reading the at night and am very glad to have Mr Francis on it.
My 11 year old son and I love baseball and Jesus. Dave's story was inspirational and well written. My son and I could not put it down.

The story was ok but predictable somehow . I did not like the heroine through out much of the book but she redeemed herself at the end ) .
Standard good Dick Francis detective book. With the nice balance of anti hero, distressed victims and hint of romance. Good fun.
Dick Francis is awesome. He catches you with his characters. You can't wait to see what's going to happen, and how they're going to handle it.
The books that HE wrote. The newer ones are written by his son.
A good story for the characters and the interaction of the past and the present. The resolution is implausible, but still a good read for D.F. fans.
